Our Journey Begins

We had a great time this past week with all of the folks who call themselves “Owensboro Christian Church.”  You received us with much love and many encouraging words.  Laura, the kids and I look forward to joining you the first weekend of September, while we’re also saddened in having to say goodbye to our friends and church family in New Orleans.

As God closes the door on our ministry at Journey, a new “journey” begins, and we open our hearts to whatever God chooses to do with us and through us there.  Owensboro has a great eldership and staff, and I anticipate the day we can truly begin to build relationships with one another.  In my mind this is of the utmost important–a community of leaders who love and serve Jesus, are united in mission and purpose, and who lovingly serve the Body of Christ and our world. 

Our heart’s desire is to see our new church family empowered through Christ’s Spirit to reach out into the Owensboro community and beyond.  We are compelled by Christ to share His message of love and transformation through word and deed.  Thus, we want to roll up our sleeves and serve.  We want to bend our knees and pray.  We want to lift up our hands and voices and worship.  We want to join arms with others and allow people to see the difference Jesus makes in our lives. 

As our journey begins, I realize that your journey at Owensboro continues on.  I pray our story will begin to merge with your story at the intersection of the cross.  What a marvelous light we have to shine in dark places!  We walk in the world though we be not of the world.  Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it, and we carry His message in our hearts and hands. 

Join us in this journey!  Share it with others!  I invite you to enter in to the joy of new beginnings.  We honor the past and embrace the future…and we do it together.

It is with great anticipation of what God has yet to do through His people at Owensboro Christian that Laura and I begin our journey with you.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
